This challenge is not to be taken lightly. By day, the boys will have to contend with the harsh, unrelenting Australian sun whilst dodging kangaroos and giant articulated road trains along the Nullarbor Plain. At night, sleeping in their swag bags on the side of the road, they will be trying to avoid being bitten by snakes, poisonous spiders and scorpions as they rest their weary muscles from the eight hours of riding they will need to do for eight consecutive days in order to complete the challenge.

Our four year old Mio recently got a makeover in the form of a new paint job, we hope you like it!

I would like to take a moment during this very special time to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported and helped us reach this incredible milestone – we’ve just turned 10!
Select Scootas is thrilled with all that we have achieved and as I sit and reflect on where we’ve come from, I can’t help but feel very proud. It definitely doesn’t seem like 10 years ago we launched at a street festival, a little naïve but with all the enthusiasm in the world.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with our story, we began as Bolwell Scootas with a great range from PGO. A few years later we introduced SYM and haven’t looked back in terms of a scoota which is incredible value-for-money and seems to be bullet proof! 18 months ago my family bought out our business partners and we started promoting the SYM range as distributed by Select Scootas. Same products, just a different name.
Four years ago we became the number one selling brand in the country (a wonderful achievement for us) and we’ve maintained the position. The reason is still the original strategy; provide a great product at a fair price and make sure you can back it up with parts, service and more service.
And this comes back to people; our staff here as well as the team of dealers who work with us each day to make sure that the riders on our scootas are always happy. CityCom300i “Outback Adventure”
We weren’t sure you’d believe us if we just told you what the brand new SYM CityCom300i was capable of, so as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words!
Our National Sales Manager Tim, Service Manager Scott, his best mate Andis and of course Morph the dog (there’s always a dog!) took off a couple of months ago and road our gorgeous brand new CityCom300i to Cameron’s Corner and back. For those a little less familiar with the rugged outback than this crazy lot, Cameron’s Corner is where the border of the Northern Territory, New South Wales and Queensland meet – basically the middle of the outback on a scoota!
Travelling over 3,200km in just six days (1,150km on dirt), our intrepid travellers tackled some of the toughest roads in Australia; corrugation, sand, bulldust and cattle grates – there’s been tall tales of disappearing into pot holes for hours at a time!
The group are an experienced bunch of dirt bikers who were after a new challenge and as one local in Milprainka (population 10!) said “You guys are even madder than us and look where we live”. He was so impressed that he replaced his old Akubra, which he’d worn for the last 19 years, with a SYM cap!
And how did the scoota go you ask, better than the conditioned riders who were broken!
· They averaged 3.74 litres of Shell V-Power per 100km (thanks Shell for your support!).
· We’re still riding around on the same road tyres a couple of months later; didn’t even get a puncture.
· Replaced the air filter once; you could of used it to pot plants.
· The boys maintained regular oil changes throughout.
· Never adjusted the suspension settings.
· Lost one body screw only!
As they wound their way along the Great Ocean Road and neared the end of their journey they lamented the near misses with suicidal wildlife, towing logs to the campfire too big for the three of them to lift and proud of their achievements after the outback ride-off with the 650cc adventure riding group they bumped into!

The Black family selects a new name and farewells Bolwell Scoota.
Bolwell Scoota has taken a new path with the announcement that full ownership of Australia’s number one selling brand of scootas now resides with the Black family. Breaking away from the Bolwell Corporation, the company will operate as Select Scootas Pty Ltd but will continue relations with existing suppliers in a deal secured on 1 April 2008.
Proudly operating under the manufacturers’ brands of SYM, PGO, E-Cycle and Eureka Scootas, Select Scootas will continue under the same management and staffing, offering dealers and customers quality service and vehicles. This is a significant chapter of the dream story for the successful Black family business that began as Bolwell Select in 1999, a joint venture with the Bolwell Corporation.
“As a family, we are thrilled about this development in Bolwell Scoota story even though we will no longer use ‘Bolwell Scoota’ as a brand name.
